Welcome to Bearridge Collies and German Shepherds, breeders of intelligent, well-tempered dogs.  We are located just outside of Grande Prairie, Alberta.  Our mission is to meet, even surpass, the Collie's and German Shepherd's Standard in breeding these beautiful animals.  Our strategy is carefully planning each litter for continuous betterment of the breeds.

An introduction to the Collie

The Collie’s legacy of loyalty is legendary.  Bred over the centuries to care for sheep and other helpless creatures, the Collie is gentle by nature.  As far back as anyone can remember grand dogs have been providing humans with an enduring love and devotion that has established the Collie as one of man’s most trusted friends. 

The Collie can be counted upon to guard only in non-aggressive ways.  They will bark and give a warning if a stranger approaches, but will be very unlikely to bite people.  As a trusted guardian Collies have been known to look after children and stand between a child, and even an adult, and impending danger.

An introduction to the German Shepherd

Throughout history, the German Shepherd has been constant in the bond developed between the dogs and their owners.  Since the dogs have traditionally been used as service and working dogs, this bond was a necessity.  A major role of the German Shepherd has been that of a guard dog, hence, the dogs are protective of their owners.  These characteristics translate into a pet dog that is very intelligent, highly trainable and extremely loyal.

The pet German Shepherd watches over the entire family and seems to be able to sense if someone is in trouble or needs help.  Likewise, the German Shepherd is a wonderful protector of children and of his owner's property.  Due to these protective instincts, the German Shepherd is naturally wary of strangers.  This is not to say that he is not a friendly dog, but he chooses whom to befriend based on his owner's attitude.  "Any friend of yours is a friend of mine."

The German Shepherd is noble and proud.  A wonderful combination of stamina, athleticism, intelligence, grace and beauty, the German Shepherd personifies the virtues of  "man's best friend."

While many people purchase a Collie or German Shepherd as a show dog, many others just want an exceptional, gentle pet, a life-long companion. Because of their innate intelligence and eagerness to please Collies and German Shepherds are well adapted for both. Easy to be around and to train with a gentle hand makes either breed ideal as a companion for children as well as adults.
